Riches plot

The Richards family is stylish, very successful and has many privileges. Stephen Richards, the paterfamilias, has after all built up a large cosmetics group, and is still head of the business there. When he suddenly has a stroke, the family's world collapses. Both his life and the future of his company hang in the balance, and his various children seem to be fighting to maintain some control (and wealth). Then family secrets and lies come to the surface.

Riches, acquired by Omroep Zwart, is a six-part British drama about the cosmetics empire of a divided family. With the almost completely black cast you could speak of Black Succession. Despite the overwhelming protagonist Deborah Ayorinde (Truth Be Told), Riches falls short on almost every front compared to his acclaimed American counterpart.

This is mainly due to the uninteresting screenplay, the stereotypical characters and the powerless dialogues. The insight into the world of blush, rouge and gloss confirms in Riches the superficial emptiness of businessmen with too much money and little morals; not very interesting to watch. Luckily the bad guy is a white man. Still an original angle?
