Houston, we have a problem.

Where S1 of alternate history For All Mankind began in lunar year 1969, S2 begins in 1983 when NASA has established a complete base on the moon as the next step in the Cold War space race. We immediately jump into action when a solar storm rages over the moon. With a small tribute to Wubbo Ockels we see all the familiar characters again. Fortunately also Shantel VanSanten, in her role as astro-wife. Her storyline doesn't quite come out well, sometimes seems contrived and soapy, but VanSanten provides her character with depth and class. It's female power in S2, both at NASA and on the moon. No glass ceiling up there. A wonderful subplot is the diplomatic mission of black astronaut Danielle Poole (Krys Marshall).

Though slightly more retro sci-fi than the first season, For All Mankind is mostly set on Earth. In an intense mix of drama, tension, romance, loss, hope and the occasional bit of humor, S2 unfolds at a wonderful pace. For All Mankind is an ingenious series, compelling and intriguing, beautifully designed and belongs to the pinnacle of American cinema. S3 is coming. We then step forward more than 10 years, back in time.

For me this was a real winner!

S1 started off a bit slow introducing the characters. S2 jumps forward in time, but we stick with the characters we started with. That's nice and also takes some courage from the writers. Ronald D. Moore already has experience with this with BSG and you notice that here. We are making a leap of quite a few years. Then you notice in the beginning that as a viewer you have to get used to 2 episodes and invest again. That can turn out good or bad. Fortunately, things work out well here.

Yes it is female power, but it didn't bother me. We see how the events of Season 1 had their effect, and we also see a nice arc conclude. Danielle Pool's character is a shining example of an amazing person.

Shantel VanSanten still does quite well with the sometimes mediocre material for her, and Joel Kinnaman, who is a bit flat, has some impressive performances in which he certainly shows something.

At a certain point it becomes so exciting that you can barely hold on to the edge of your seat. The steps all make sense, but somewhere inside you are screaming: don't do it or don't let it happen! It is even unbelievable how many storylines are pushed to the limit. It seemed as if the series had been canceled and the writers wanted to put an end to everything. This also led to top TV at Babylon 5 in season 4.

The finale is extremely moving, exciting and a must see and shows the courage of the writers.

Great TV!

9/10.
