For All Mankind plot

For All Mankind begins on July 16, 1969, as NASA sees humans land on the moon for the first time. The story is told through the lives of NASA astronauts, engineers and their families and presents an ambitious world in which NASA and the space program remained a priority and a focal point of our hopes and dreams. In other words, what would have happened if the global space race had never ended.

Sublime drama by dream team Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander), Ben Nedivi and Matt Wolpert (both The Umbrella Academy, Fargo) based on the premise that it is not the Americans who set foot on the moon first, but the Russians. Neil Armstrong remains in the series so Neil who? An alternate history or, if you will, down to earth 60s-70s sci-fi. In that sense somewhat comparable to The Man In The High Castle or The Plot Against America. What makes the series so strong is the great attention to the personal storylines, the fine characters, the great but also oppressive 70s atmosphere, the eye for detail and the strong criticism of American politics.

Protagonist on duty is astronaut Edward Baldwin (Joel Kinnaman). It's one of the few downsides I can spot. Kinnaman is obviously cool and collected, but also has an expressionless face and somewhat wooden motor skills. Even without a space suit. For All Mankind unfolds slowly, but stay on board because as soon as more vrouwleu appear on the work floor, the brewery will come alive. (Happily, 50 years later, it still is.)

All other roles are excellently filled. Shantel VanSanten (indeed, of Dutch descent) plays Karen Baldwin and does so gracefully and majestically; VanSanten acts here all the stars of the galaxy. The most beautiful role is for the moon. The inhospitable, desolate moon here symbolizes the dark human psyche.

Intriguing, exciting, topical and dramatic; we can safely speak of Apple top TV+ here.
