Ergens tussen guilty pleasure en oprecht goede serie. Wat zo bijzonder goed werkt aan dit eerste seizoen is de sarcastische knipoog naar overdreven soap-elementen, terwijl het zichzelf dan weer net serieus genoeg neemt om het overtuigend te houden. Dit zou meteen ook het eerste en enige seizoen zijn waar het mysterie de moeite van het ontrafelen waard was. De allerlaatste episode laat alle plotwendingen en onthullingen knallend bij elkaar komen tot een bevredigende afsluiting. In latere seizoenen waren de makers duidelijk meer zoekende naar hoe ze het format boeiend konden houden voor de vaste kijkers.

Somewhere between guilty pleasure and genuinely good series. What works so well about this first season is its sarcastic nod to exaggerated soap elements, while taking itself just seriously enough to keep it convincing. This would also be the first and only season where the mystery was worth unraveling. The very last episode brings all the plot twists and revelations together to a satisfying conclusion. In later seasons, the makers were clearly more looking for how to keep the format interesting for the regular viewers.

Ik ging er vanuit dat dit een onwijze chick serie was maar ik heb toen met een vriendin van mij een paar eps mee moeten kijken en ik vond het eigenlijk best spannend en ook wel grappig.. Elk seizoen heeft een nieuw "mystery" dat zich in de wijk afspeelt door voornamelijk nieuwe bewoners die wat skeletten in de kast hebben. De latere seizoenen vond ik wel iets minder, vooral omdat er ineens een sprong van 5 jaar in de toekomst gemaakt werd... toch raad ik deze serie aan, ook aan de guys.. Goede verhaallijnen, grappige humor, hier en daar wat drama enne... naar Eva Longoria kijken is ook niet vervelend

I assumed this was a crazy chick series but I then had to watch a few eps with a friend of mine and I actually found it quite exciting and also funny.. Every season has a new "mystery" that arises in the neighborhood is mainly set by new residents who have some skeletons in the closet. I found the later seasons a bit less, especially because suddenly a jump of 5 years in the future was made... still I recommend this series, also to the guys.. Good storylines, funny humor, some drama here and there and... watching Eva Longoria isn't boring either

Al heel lang geleden de serie compleet afgekeken, maar ik kon de seizoenen gewoon niet goed uit elkaar houden om goed te beoordelen. Om die reden weer helemaal opnieuw begonnen vanaf het begin, maar ook om het gewoon weer opnieuw te beleven, want heel veel dingen wist ik niet meer zo goed. Dit is naar mijn idee het beste seizoen! Alles wordt erg mooi geïntroduceerd. Het begint bij een vrouw die zelfmoord pleegt en vanuit daar wordt je meegenomen. Heel goed en mooi gedaan en alle puzzelstukjes komen vanzelf op zijn plek en zit mooi verweven. Je krijgt de buurt goed te zien met al zijn mooie en minder mooie kanten, de dagelijkse gang van zaken, de rompslomp. Maar ook in de levens van de bewoners die allemaal anders zijn, maar elke aflevering staat een thema centraal die iedereen met elkaar verbind. De hoofdrolspelers doen het allemaal erg goed en leuk en elk personage heeft weer iets doortrapts, maar ook iets sympathieks. Het zijn herkenbare situaties en daarom kan je je er ook zo goed mee identificeren. Niets is storend. Behalve dan het eeuwige uitstellen en vernietigen van de relatie tussen Mike en Susan. Dit gaat nog heel de serie door en dat haat ik altijd. Voor de rest is dit seizoen heerlijk om weg te kijken. Een serie die alles omvat vind ik het allerleukste. Dit is niet een standaard vrouwenserie. Nee, het omvat alles. Humor, romantiek, drama, mysterie, spanning, misdaad.

I watched the series completely a long time ago, but I just couldn't tell the seasons apart to properly judge. For that reason I started all over again from the beginning, but also to just experience it all over again, because I didn't know a lot of things very well anymore.

This is the best season in my opinion! Everything is introduced very nicely. It starts with a woman who commits suicide and from there you are taken. Very well and beautifully done and all puzzle pieces come into place by themselves and are nicely intertwined. You get to see the neighborhood well with all its beautiful and less beautiful sides, the daily routine, the red tape. But also in the lives of the residents who are all different, but each episode focuses on a theme that connects everyone. The protagonists all do very well and fun and every character has something cunning, but also something sympathetic. They are recognizable situations and that is why you can identify with them so well. Nothing is disturbing. Except for the eternal delay and destruction of the relationship between Mike and Susan. This continues throughout the series and I always hate that. For the rest, this season is wonderful to look away.

I like a series that encompasses everything the best. This is not your standard women's series. No, it includes everything. Humor, romance, drama, mystery, suspense, crime.
