Cheat plot
When college professor Leah Dale receives the latest essay from college student Rose Vaughan, she senses something is amiss. It's not in her student's usual style, and she suspects cheating is involved. She accuses Rose of receiving outside help for her job. Leah hates cheating, and although the case is seemingly closed, she can't let go, fueled in part by the pressures of her relationship at home to pursue Rose further. Rose is a mysterious new student of Leah's. She always arrives late and seemingly has a vendetta with her mentor, a disturbing relationship that only intensifies after the charges of cheating. Furious with her teacher, it seems the nefarious Rose is concocting a plan to implicate Leah in a heinous crime.

Dancing on the ruins that irresponsible men left behind. Or how college teacher Leah (Katherine Kelly) awaits an important appointment while remaining steadfast when college student Rose (Molly Windsor) submits a plagiarized essay. A vicious psychological power play ensues between the two women that turns the fuse into Leah's marriage to a man she doesn't love. In the background, compelling father figures and a society where women are punished more severely for their sexuality or are viewed with suspicion in any case in positions of power. The nice thing about 'Cheat' (2019) is how the promiscuous student encourages her virtuous professor that she too must use social expectations towards women - about herself or the other - to put the other person in a heel. Unfortunately, after two delightfully villainous episodes, the series shifts its focus to a complicated and implausible background story. It could have been a bit more at the core of two women who are evenly matched with their psychological terror.
