Harry Bosch begins a new chapter in his career as a private detective. His first assignment takes him to the estate of ailing billionaire Whitney Vance, where Bosch is tasked with finding Vance's only potential heir. During his search, Bosch comes into contact with powerful figures who have an interest in the heir not being found. As he researches the family tree, he discovers shocking revelations that span generations, with billions of dollars at stake. Without the badge and a preference for old-fashioned tactics, Bosch finds an invaluable resource in Maurice "Mo" Bassi.

Bosch Legacy had zijn première op IMdB TV van Amazon en is geen vervolg op de zeven seizoenen Bosch. En toch ook weer wel. Met alle vertrouwde gezichten naast privé-detective Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) zoals dochter Maddie (Madison Lintz) en advocaat Honey Chandler (Mimi Rogers), is het lastig Bosch Legacy los te zien van de eerdere seizoenen. Toch zijn er verschillen. Bosch Legacy concentreert zich op deze drie belangrijke karakters. Harry Bosch is gestopt bij de LAPD - geen politieke machinaties meer - en een uitstekende vondst is dat Maddie als rookie begint bij de LAPD. Ook zien we een aantal cameo's van oude bekenden. En zien we William Devane in een gastoptreden terug. Waarbij hij voor zijn rol als terminaal zieke overigens een behoorlijk kwieke indruk maakt. Kwalitatief is Bosch Legacy duidelijk minder dan Bosch. In alles kun je zien dat de budgetten een stuk kleiner waren; de locaties, de acteurs, de verhaallijnen, het is allemaal net een tandje minder. Een ander probleem is dat sommige afleveringen de neiging hebben voort te kabbelen, versterkt door het vele obligate gepraat van de drie hoofdpersonen. De trage en voorspelbare verhaalontwikkeling, met name in het tweede deel, haalt veel sprankeling, spanning en klasse van de 'oude' Bosch weg. Gelukkig blijft er net genoeg te genieten over.

Bosch Legacy premiered on Amazon's IMdB TV and is not a sequel to the seven seasons of Bosch. And yet again. With all the familiar faces alongside private detective Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) like daughter Maddie (Madison Lintz) and lawyer Honey Chandler (Mimi Rogers), it's hard to separate Bosch Legacy from the previous seasons. Yet there are differences.

Bosch Legacy focuses on these three key characters. Harry Bosch has retired from the LAPD - no more political machinations - and an excellent find is that Maddie starts as rookie with the LAPD. We also see a number of cameos from old acquaintances. And we see William Devane in a guest appearance. Which he makes a pretty spry impression for his role as a terminally ill.

In terms of quality, Bosch Legacy is clearly less than Bosch. In everything you can see that the budgets were a lot smaller; the locations, the actors, the storylines, it's all just a notch. Another problem is that some episodes have a tendency to ripple on, amplified by the many obligatory chatter of the three main characters. The slow and predictable story development, especially in the second part, takes away a lot of sparkle, tension and class from the 'old' Bosch. Fortunately, there is just enough left to enjoy.

Prima vervolg op de Bosch serie, waarin Bosch als prive detective gaat werken en weer veel met advocate Honey Chandler samenwerkt. Ik was ietwat gematigd in mijn verwachtingen aangezien de kwaliteit van die serie schatplichtig is geweest aan Michael Connelly's boeken, waar deze serie nu op eigen voet verder gaat, weliswaar nog steeds met inbreng van Connelly. Sommigen zullen met name de collega van Bosch, J Edgar, missen. Anderen zijn niet perse blij met de beperkte acteercapaciteiten van dochter Madison Lintz, die een grotere rol heeft, of het wat dikkere actiesausje in deze serie waarbij Bosch nogal eens stout moet doen om iets als prive detective te kunnen achterhalen en daarbij soms de geloofwaardigheid tekort doet. Sommige critici sloegen ook het woke alarm maar gelukkig valt dit alleszins mee. Mimi Rogers en Titus Welliver zijn nog altijd zeer genietbaar in hun rollen en de verhalen zijn onderhoudend als vanouds. Het tempo blijft ook relaxed. Zeker voor een Amerikaanse serie. Eigenlijk de detective serie voor mensen die normaal niet van politie-of detective series houden.

Some critics also sounded the woke alarm, but fortunately this is not too bad. Mimi Rogers and Titus Welliver are still very enjoyable in their roles and the stories are as entertaining as ever. The pace also remains relaxed. Especially for an American series. Actually the detective series for people who normally do not like police or detective series.

Een uitstekend vervolg op de eerste serie Bosch (2014 - 2021). Het is wel even wennen, nu Bosch privédetective is, maar zeker niet slechter; gewoon anders. Op punten vind ik dit eerste seizoen van deze tweede serie misschien nog wel iets beter dan de eerste, ook door toevoeging van de techguy 'Mo'. De cast is nog steeds top en de diverse verhaallijnen zijn goed in elkaar gezet. Alleen jammer dat een van deze verhaallijnen met een dikke cliffhanger eindigt. Van de andere kant; dan hebben we gewoon weer iets moois om naar uit te kijken.

An excellent sequel to the first series Bosch (2014 - 2021). It takes some getting used to, now that Bosch is a private detective, but certainly no worse; just different. On points I think this first season of this second series is perhaps a bit better than the first, also due to the addition of the tech guy 'Mo'. The cast is still top notch and the various storylines are well put together. It's just a pity that one of these storylines ends with a big cliffhanger. From the other side; then we just have something beautiful to look forward to.
