Until I Kill You (2024)

True drama based on the book Living with a Serial Killer by Delia Balmer. Nick Stevens (The Pembrokeshire Murders) turned it into a smooth script about serious domestic violence. Delia Balmer is played fantastically by Anna Maxwell Martin (A Spy Among Friends). She gives her character an ambiguous, bitter and proud charge and spares herself nowhere. The same goes for Shaun Evans (Endeavour). In his role as John Sweeney he is endearing, creepy and unstable at the same time. In all this acting violence we see Sallie Harmsen in a supporting role.

Over a period of years, we see how the relationship between Delia and John develops. In the four episodes of 45 minutes, large leaps in time are made. That is a pity. Until I Kill You loses momentum in the second part by mainly concentrating on the criminal prosecution of this gripping case. And so remains just too fleeting to make a deep impression.

I really thought this was a fantastic series, also because it was a theme that really appealed to me. But this series is made completely great by the fantastic performance of Maxwell Martin, she is the face of this series. Delia Palmer also really appealed to me in real life. Someone who just says and does what she feels like and does not always think about what society thinks about it, a wonderfully special woman. Only the Dutch passages I found a little less, but otherwise a top series. It is a serial killer, so not everything is told in the series, I think it could have been at the end....
