Beautifully put together, this British detective series. Like a puzzle, the different storylines eventually interlock. It must be said that all the suspect parties are more interesting than the actual protagonists, but that is more a plus than a minus. Nicely constructed in any case, well played and sufficiently compelling. I will definitely watch season two.

After watching 5 seasons, this series can be judged a little better. The first season shows an "easy-watching" crime story that is also continued in the other seasons; the series does not have to rely on spectacular actions such as in the series Silent Witness (Series, 1996 - 2025) which is similar in terms of premise. However, the stories themselves are very well put together with the same basic structure: in the first 1-2 parts, a number of people involved are highlighted who are somehow involved in the crime. In the subsequent parts it becomes increasingly clear who played which role in that crime, after which it becomes clear in the last part who the perpetrator is. In addition to the basic story, the personal circumstances of the detectives and other people involved are also extensively highlighted; sometimes a bit too much of a good thing. Seasons 3 and 4 are the best. Season 5 is a bit less, which is not a result of the change of the chief detective, but more a result of the slightly less crime plot. All in all a very pleasant series to watch, with here and there a surprise in the plots.
