Presumed Innocent is a legal thriller based on a book by Scott Turow. In 1990, Alan J. Pakula adapted the story into a film starring Harrison Ford. And now there is David E. Kelley (The Undoing, Big Little Lies) who adapted the book into an excellent 8-part series. The problem with courtroom dramas is that the setting can be static and one courtroom drama can be quite similar to another. What flaming plea have we never seen before? This is in a sense no different in Presumed Innocent, but all dialogues are of a high standard. The series is completely convincing.

First of all because of the excellent acting of the entire cast. In addition, the traditional structure provides a lot of support in the versatile story. Episode 5 looks like a restless fever dream, but remains clear and fascinating. Every episode - where do we still see that - invariably ends with an exciting cliffhanger.

Presumed Innocent is exciting, dramatic and an ongoing search for the truth. The atmosphere and tone are reminiscent of Defending Jacob, also an Apple TV+ production. The book is convincing, as is the 1990 film and the series. In this version, acting is elevated to cinematic art. It makes Presumed Innocent old-fashioned good.

Beautiful series with a brilliant role for Gyllenhaal, who I don't always find that strong but certainly here. And Bill Camp is of course fantastic again. Could just drive to the set with his own wife, because she also plays his wife in the series.

I found it exciting, but the downside is that I just finished watching the series in one day, it's been since part 1 of The Killing...
