Midsomer Murders plot

Midsomer County seems like a quiet and peaceful county in England, but nothing could be further from the truth. On a regular basis, DCI Tom Barnaby and his assistants are presented with horrific murders. Nothing is what it seems behind the facades of the oh-so-picturesque cottages and mansions, the sneaky writers and investment clubs or the sinister choirs. Heads are cut off, people are strangled, drowned or burned alive, pierced with a threatening object or pelted with their most precious possessions. Murder is out of love, hatred, revenge and jealousy, and in many cases the killer will stop at nothing.

In the nineteenth season, DCI John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon) solves several murders again. This season he has a new assistant, Jamie Winter. Barnaby's wife is working on a book and a new dog is coming.

Together with his new partner we are taken to the most bizarre things. To an eighteenth-century theme party, a music festival, an advanced village from the Second World War, a cricket game, a show with rabbits… Plenty of variety.

It is a typical British series, not flashy, but quiet detective work in the style of good old Agatha Christie. All this in a typical English landscape. It never gets really bloody, as is so often the case in American series and films. The characters of both Barnaby and his team as well as the perpetrators are neat people. Characters are well developed. In season nineteen you regularly get a glimpse into their private lives.
