A solid British police drama that never really gets exciting

Alison Books, convincingly played by Rose Ayling-Ellis, who was deaf from birth, is deployed by the detective team as an undercover operative. Alison works in the police station kitchen and can lip-read, trying to infiltrate a criminal organization. A unique approach. The six-part Code of Silence is only partially convincing. The crime plot is average, and the static nature of the first episodes—set at home, in a bar, or in the office—slows down the already slow story. Ayling-Ellis's performance makes up for a lot, but it can't prevent Code of Silence from remaining unremarkable.

A series that gets more than enough for me. That's not due to the suspense or the story, but more to the cast, especially Ayling, although it was occasionally tiring to listen to her. Buchan and Absolom were also excellent in their roles. The plot... okay... and pretty clear how it was going to end. Season 2 is on its way and, according to the previews, will feature more police work by Alison.
