The Cosby Show plot
The show revolves around the lives of the Huxtable family, a middle-class African-American family living in Brooklyn Heights, New York. Head of the family is Heathcliff "Cliff" Huxtable, a doctor. He is married to Clair, a lawyer. Together they have five children: Sondra Huxtable-Tibideaux, Denise Huxtable-Kendall, Theo Huxtable, Vanessa Huxtable and little Rudy Huxtable.

The Huxtables were a recognizable middle-class family. They had big smiles, shiny eyes and chubby cheeks. There was a cozy feeling and zest for life. Problems arose, but they were resolved by the end of the episode. It was a safe environment to grow up in. There appeared to be little difference between a black and a white family.
It was a good idea to give the children different ages. As a result, various vicissitudes could be dealt with: Denise who came home with a wrong boyfriend, Theo who bought an too expensive shirt, Vanessa and Rudy who had a childish fight… There were also funny incidents between the two parents, for example when Claire secretly tasted the chili sauce or when Cliff cheated on the diet.
Bill Cosby could spice up a comedic monologue with improvisation, silly faces, exaggerated body movements and lanky dancing. Phylicia Rashad played the wife with common sense and people skills. Lisa Bonet and Malcolm-Jamal Warner were the most popular kids, but I myself had a soft spot for Tempestt Bledsoe, who went through the evolution from good kid to rebellious teenager. Keshia Knight Pulliam was cute as the youngest daughter. There was regular attention for jazz. In the season finale, singer Lena Horne has a guest role. The frontage was in Greenwich Village; the interior in a TV studio. Laughter and applause were recorded afterwards. It remains one of the funniest American sitcoms.
