In the 10-part comedy Platonic, Sylvia (Rose Byrne) and Will (Seth Rogen) meet again after Will's divorce. They were friends in their school days, why shouldn't that be possible again years later - without romantic consequences, because Sylvia is married? The comparison with When Harry met Sally soon arises.

Seth Rogen plays a role he often plays; the immature, jerky man stuck in puberty. It is immediately the weakest point of Platonic. The chemistry between Byrne and Rogen is authentic, but you wonder all the time why the hell Sylvia is friends with a loose cannon. So much for the romance.

After the bland, typical American and screaming first episodes, Platonic starts to get better. Byrne and Rogen have played together well through previous roles. At a fast pace, some sharp and striking jokes are served that opposites Sylvia and Will know how to exploit. However, Platonic deserved a more serious approach. All potentially dramatic elements are overwhelmed by the often chaotic situations and superficial laugh-or-I-shoot humor. Lack of depth? The British would have known what to do with that.
