Emily in Paris season 1

Emily in Paris, it's a big collection of stereotypes. About the French, but for the non-American, the American protagonist also comes across as one big American cliché: doesn't speak the language, check. Let others adapt to her, because in the last episode she barely speaks French, check, a horribly bad sense of style, check (although it must be said that the average American woman has an even worse sense of style).

But especially the whole approach that she does better in her American way is irritating. And that while she doesn't really have a structured work plan except for a bit playing the influencer and throwing cliché photos on Instagram, where apparently every shot is hit. It works excellently in the plot of this series, and that will therefore appeal to the average millennial: because what a dream life it is. My girlfriend was also jealous of it, but of course this is not real life.

And yet it all manages to entertain. That may also be because the makers have lumped together a lot of successful concepts. Numerous films about Americans in Paris have preceded this series, throw in a little Sex and the City and a dash of The Devil Wears Prada, and a teaspoon of French cuisine, and then Do you have a mix where there is something entertaining for almost everyone. In my case, it's the duo Julien and Luc, the latter especially being a delightful French sexist.

Anyway, the elements in this mix are also not very original. I rate it 1.5* because it still manages to entertain, but it's anything but uplifting.
