Atypical plot

Sam Gardner, an 18-year-old autist, goes in search of himself and love. It will be a painful but wonderful journey that also turns the life of his family upside down. Each and every one of them is forced to change. Sam is a friendly young man who is interested in penguins, hates noisy environments and takes online dating advice quite literally. The central question in this 'coming of age' series: what does it really mean to be normal?

Atypical season 1

Good series that is not directly about a boy with autism, but more about a family whose son has autism. All family members therefore receive the same amount of screen time and each has their own problems. The humor is not successful everywhere, but this relatively short series does look away easily (especially because of the fine cast).

Atypical season 1

Great series that looks good.
Acting is very strong, but the characters are very exaggerated. Sam, for example, does have an extremely bad form of autism, other characters sometimes let their emotions run wild. But actually that is the statement of this series. Everyone recognizes themselves in making serious mistakes due to emotions that get out of hand.

I found the episodes a bit monotonous. That is often the case with Netflix. They might as well have made a 4.5 hour movie, it wouldn't have made a difference.
Jokes, action and twists were nowhere to be found. However, the episodes and the story were entertaining, probably due to a good director and good writers.

A nice place to take a look in between. If maybe a second season comes out in a year (or longer) I would definitely watch it, but I wouldn't be sad if this series no longer sees a future.
