3rd Rock from the Sun plot

Four aliens are disguised as ordinary people to study the behavior of the inhabitants. These aliens have taken on the guises of the Solomon family consisting of Dr. Dick Solomon, his sister Sally, his brother Harry and his son Tommy. They mingle with the people. High Commander Dick does this by teaching at a university. Here he meets Dr Mary Albright, a woman he instantly falls for, but unfortunately for him, her feelings aren't always mutual.

Geweldige sitcom over 4 aliens die op aarde komen om het menselijke ras te onderzoeken. Lithgow steelt de rol met zijn geniale performance van Dick Solomon, vooral als die samen met Dr. Mary Albright (Jane Curtin) maken dit 1 van de grappigste sitcoms ooit.

Great sitcom about 4 aliens who come to Earth to investigate the human race. Lithgow steals the part with his brilliant performance from Dick Solomon, especially when co-starring with Dr. Mary Albright (Jane Curtin) make this one of the funniest sitcoms ever.

John Lithgow voorop, maar eigenlijk is iedereen hier vreselijk goed op dreef en op elkaar ingespeeld - pure professionals met precies de juist koppen en mimiek om een sitcom het nodige vuur te geven. Het is zwaar aangezet en behoorlijk silly, ook al zit er genoeg maatschappijkritiek en zwarte humor in verwerkt, maar het werkt gewoon. Laugh track of niet, dat maakt me dan weinig uit. 4,0*.

John Lithgow leading the way, but actually everyone here is incredibly well-behaved and attuned to each other - pure professionals with just the right heads and facial expressions to give a sitcom the necessary fire. It's heavy and pretty silly, even if there's enough social criticism and black humor in it, but it just works. Laugh track or not, I don't care.

De eerste serie is waarschijnlijk ook de beste zoals zo vaak bij Komedie series. Dan is er nog een hoop inspiratie en is het thema nog niet zo uitgekauwd zoals in latere series vaak gebeurt. Dat is hier in ieder geval ook het geval. Al worden de afleveringen als je ze allemaal achter elkaar kijkt ook al steeds minder interessant. Maar zelfs nummer 20 van de eerste serie is nog steeds erg grappig.

The first series is probably the best as so often with Comedy series. Then there is a lot of inspiration and the theme is not yet as chewed out as often happens in later series. In any case, that is also the case here. Although the episodes become less and less interesting if you watch them all in succession. But even number 20 of the first series is still very funny.
