King of the Hill plot

King of the Hill revolves around the lives of the Hill family, a quintessential Methodist family, who live in Arlen, Texas, and are very proud of their Texan heritage. Unlike many other animated sitcoms, which often feature unusual or impossible events, King of the Hill often deals with more realistic themes such as friendship, relationships, justice, jealousy, and hubris.

King of the Hill season 14

King of the Hill is my favorite animated series. I thoroughly enjoyed every season, so I was overjoyed when this new season was announced. Unfortunately, there is a noticeable break with the trend that weighs heavily on my mind. What was original about King of the Hill was that it followed a Republican family and that conservative social criticism was evident in many episodes, without descending into caricature. The conversations between Hank and his son Bobby so often reminded me of the reprimands and moral lessons from my own father, God rest his soul.

In this final season, however, the woke virus has also taken hold of the Hill family and neighbors. A selection of examples: Islamic Saudi Arabia is glorified, as is the wearing of veils by women; inclusive language is viewed positively; Connie is in an open relationship; Bill suddenly has a whole gang of black buddies... And all of this without a hint of irony. Is there any more to ask?

Hank Hill was always a moderate blue-collar Republican, but the libertarian populism that was so characteristic of this series has been traded for wokeism, as in most other series. Was this perhaps a condition for securing funding for a new season? A pity. Still, despite the frustration, plenty of sentiment and nostalgia remains, as well as fine humor. Hence the generous score of 3*, given the circumstances.
