I was also sold on the second season: the surreal craziness, combined with a plot of epic proportions, results in one of the most idiosyncratic animated series ever. Beneath the childishly naive appearance lurks a jet-black dystopia about a world where everyone is equally crazy or insane, even the characters who play hero roles. On the other hand, the villains often appear to have a hidden and moving human side.

Indeed a clear step up compared to the first season. What I especially like is that dark edges are added to the energetic, imaginative and cheerful atmosphere. "It Came from the Nightosphere", "Death in Bloom" and the Lich episodes are the outliers of this season in that regard. As with the first season (and later seasons), the level is a little too uneven to warrant a really high rating, but nevertheless the series definitely introduces itself here as one of the most inventive and mature animated series, with a surreal world full of complexities. characters.
