Once upon a Time plot

A bounty hunter by trade, Emma Swan can track down people who would rather not be found. She herself is found on her 28th birthday by a 10-year-old boy who claims to be her son. He says he lives in a village, Storybrooke, where all fairytale characters have been banned by the evil witch (his stepmother) and that Emma is the only one who can undo this curse. All the residents of Storybrooke suffer from amnesia because of the spell and do not know which fairytale character they actually are.

Season 1 was very engaging. Season 2 was also good, but less so. There were certainly strong episodes, but across the board I got the impression that it was mostly a repetition of moves. This third season felt especially innovative and as a result, the level of the first season was again reached.

What this season owes a lot to are the two new antagonists. Peter Pan was a risky choice for me. Certainly in the Disney universe he is after all one of the most prominent heroes with Hook as one of the most prominent villains. The fact that those roles are reversed in Once Upon a Time is equally awkward, but as the season has progressed, I've grown more and more respectful of how they've handled this and how the stories of the characters we already know are woven into it. I'm not very familiar with the whole Oz thing, but it was very well developed. Zelena is a sincere and convincingly portrayed rival. These two enemies, in my opinion, are a lot more interesting than Cora, who looked too much like Regina.

I continue to find it amazing how people manage to overlap these worlds and how everything seems to have been thought out exactly in advance. Despite the fact that the tension is occasionally destroyed because the characters themselves fall back on the 'good thing always wins' a little too often, it remains interesting to see what problems the characters face and how they have to get out of it. . It helps that it all remains quite unpredictable.

I wonder what the fourth season will bring. Hopefully this level will continue.

4*
