It took me a few years, but now I have completely completed Black Sails, with mixed feelings. First of all, I am very pleased with the production value of this season. That was already high in previous seasons, but the new locations make everything come into its own even better. The costumes are beautiful, the battles feel realistic and the colors pop off your screen.
Unfortunately, this is accompanied by a story that ripples along very slowly. Very little actually happens this season. The dialogues are sometimes endless, especially a dialogue between Flint and Silver in the last episode. If you consider what is finally said, it could have been done with fewer words.
I've always had a love/hate relationship with Black Sails, but since I've rated every season 3.5* and still wanted to finish it, I have little to complain about.

The pirate flag is raised one last time for the final season. There are quite a few surprises towards the end, as 'Black Sails' still doesn't shy away from suddenly killing off key characters. There's one particular death that makes a big impression, and whose absence resonates in the further developments surrounding the future of Nassau. It's also a shame that 'Black Sails' increasingly draws connections to 'Treasure Island' in the final episodes. For that reason, the ending isn't nearly as epic or grandiose as the middle section I mentioned earlier. But I will always remember 'Black Sails' as a delightful mix of swashbuckling fun with dark themes about colonialism and the dark side of the British Empire.
