The second season of Z Nation is off to a great start. As usual a lot of action, an arsenal of weirdo characters, and often wonderful humor. It also looks a bit slicker than season 1, and the gore often consists of really cool practical effects instead of. CGI. In terms of characters, we get two cool guys: Vazquez (a more serious character, who has one of the stronger scenes from the season with his 'Day One' segment), and Escorpion (a middle aged Mexican gang member who has a lot of good humor adds). DJ Qualls (Citizen Z) actually has a lot less screen time, which I can only encourage since his scenes in season 1 were excruciatingly annoying.

The first 8 episodes are really enjoyable (with the Mad Max-like episode with William Sadler as the pinnacle). Unfortunately, it suddenly collapses very suddenly. Too many attempts are made to be 'interesting' (while those episodes with the aliens, the zeros or the Indians really made no sense). The humor suddenly stops working, and the story is suddenly no longer presented in an interesting way. So what follows are six meager episodes. Fortunately, the season finale makes up for it, and the cliffhanger once again arouses interest.
