Batman plot

Rich businessman Bruce Wayne and his ward Dick Grayson lead a double life. They are actually the crime fighting duo of Batman and Robin. A secret passageway in Wayne Mansion leads to the Batcave, where Police Commissioner Gordon regularly calls for help with yet another state of emergency in Gotham City. Using the Batmobile and its many gadgets, Batman and Robin must face off against a group of super villains, including The Joker, The Riddler, Catwoman and The Penguin.

Derde en laatste seizoen van de populaire tv-serie Batman. Na de uitstekende eerste twee seizoenen stelt dit derde seizoen enigszins teleur. Het budget werd voor dit derde seizoen flink teruggeschroefd en dat valt er helaas ook aan af te zien. Met name de decors zien er behoorlijk nep uit. Na een eenmalig optreden van John Astin als The Riddler in seizoen 2, keerde Frank Gorshin wederom terug in dit derde seizoen. Actrice Julie Newmar keerde om onduidelijke redenen niet terug voor dit derde seizoen en werd vervangen door actrice Eartha Kitt. Helaas verdween hierdoor ook de seksuele spanning tussen Batman en Catwoman, want een interraciale relatie (Adam West was blank en Eartha Kitt was zwart) was iets te controversieel voor eind jaren ’60. Yvonne Craig maakt hier haar debuut als Batgirl en is een welkome aanvulling. In één van de bijrollen zien we ook een jonge Joan Collins als de schurk The Siren. Gezien de kosten en de dalende kijkcijfers werd de stekker er na dit derde seizoen uitgetrokken. Tot op de dag van vandaag blijft de serie echter populair en zowel Adam West als Burt Ward zijn nooit meer van hun Batman en Robin personages afgekomen.

Third and final season of the hit TV series Batman. After the excellent first two seasons, this third season disappoints somewhat. The budget for this third season was considerably reduced and unfortunately it shows. The decors in particular look pretty fake.

After a one-time appearance by John Astin as The Riddler in Season 2, Frank Gorshin returned again in this third season. Actress Julie Newmar did not return for this third season for unknown reasons and was replaced by actress Eartha Kitt. Unfortunately, this also removed the sexual tension between Batman and Catwoman, because an interracial relationship (Adam West was white and Eartha Kitt was black) was a bit too controversial for the late 1960s. Yvonne Craig makes her debut as Batgirl here and is a welcome addition. In one of the supporting roles we also see a young Joan Collins as the villain The Siren. Given the costs and declining viewing figures, the plug was pulled after this third season. To this day, however, the series remains popular and both Adam West and Burt Ward never got rid of their Batman and Robin characters.
