The weakest season yet, but not exactly dramatic. That this would differ from previous seasons was predictable, given the finale of season 7. This is also the shortest season, and I see it mainly as a transition season. Because yes, the series was renewed for two more series!
This season takes place entirely in Archer's dream world, while he himself is in a coma. Archer is a private eye in post-war LA who tries to solve the murder of his partner Woodhouse (who also turns out to be dead in reality), only to become entangled in a web that will become increasingly difficult for him to get out.
Although this animated series is also known as an action series, it is mainly the humor that the show has to rely on. And that one is, admittedly, of a lower level than - sure! - the first six seasons. This is of course partly because the known characters now get a somewhat different interpretation, and that takes getting used to. The setting doesn't work as well as it did in previous seasons, but I still had to laugh regularly with Archer's antics in particular, but also, for example, the jazz quartet.
It must be said that there are some nice guest stars this season, with Keegan-Michael Key and Wendell Pierce (Bunk from The Wire) as jazz musicians and Eugene Mirman (Gene from Bob's Burgers ]) as the pleasantly disturbed brother of Charlotte Vandertunt. As a result, a half extra; otherwise this would have been a very narrow sufficiency.
