Creator and screenwriter Peter Craig (The Hunger Games, The Batman, Top Gun: Maverick) is at home in the action genre. The first episodes of his latest creation, Dope Thief, are full of tension and pace. The opening episode, directed by Ridley Scott, is among the best pilots of 2025. Dope Thief's problem lies in the middle of the eight-part first season, where the pace loses and the annoying dialogue drains all the energy from the series. The leaking tension, the complex but mostly uninteresting family relationships, and the constantly bickering DEA petty thieves' guild make Dope Thief a tough watch. The crime thriller recovers in the two final episodes, but the impression of a missed opportunity remains.
