The second season of The Tower focuses on a cold case. With 'the Portland tower' as a traumatic monster occasionally in the picture, a smooth and typical British police drama unfolds. The storylines are not particularly original. Yet this four-part season - with the occasional surprising twist - looks easy. The acting of Gemma Whelan (DI Ray, Game of Thrones) as DS Sarah Collins in particular stands out in a positive sense. Whelan is excellent at conveying the ambivalence in her role between decisiveness and subtle vulnerability.

Unfortunately, that does not apply to Emmett J Scanlan (Kin, Gangs of London) in his role of DI Keiran Shaw, who acts woodenly and awkwardly. As if he doesn't even know why he was cast. In the field of (gender) equality, The Tower is sometimes surprisingly dated with the relationship that Shaw as a manager maintains with his younger employee. The Tower lacks the class of Unforgotten, The Responder of Happy Valley, but offers plenty of drama and entertainment.
