Broadchurch plot

The quiet southern English coastal town of Broadchurch is rocked by the murder of 11-year-old Danny Latimer. The police investigation is led by Detectives Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller. Ellie has known the victim's family for years and is struggling with the immense grief Danny's death has caused in Broadchurch. She also struggles with various personal dilemmas, as well as the fact that she hates working with Hardy. Tension rises between the two when budding journalist Olly, Ellie's nephew, interferes with the investigation in an annoying way. Everyone tries their own way to find out what happened to Danny. Suspicions are expressed, which leads to a lot of unrest in the small village community. Even Ellie's own son Tom seems to have something to hide...

I found the first season very exciting. The second season of Broadchurch still contains much of the good from the first season: excellent acting from the entire cast (especially the dynamics between Tennant and Colman remain nice), beautiful recordings and once again they manage to keep the viewer in the dark. to grope about the matter at hand. Nevertheless, there is also an important shortcoming: the aforementioned tension. The new case is so vague that it is actually not that interesting until the last two episodes. In addition, the bickering about the lawsuit also gets a bit tiresome after a while. It's really the actors who save the day here. The emotions evoked by the families are genuine and conveyed with great care. Despite this, I occasionally got the feeling that the series had to bend itself in all sorts of ways to keep it interesting.

3*

Solid season, remains fascinating, but still a lot less than S1. I don't have much with a court setting and occasionally it came across a bit soap-like. Not with regard to the acting, but for example the way in which people are sometimes portrayed during dialogues, and Lee's place of residence a drafty house on top of a hill..mweh

A small 3.5*, because I found the mystery in the first season a bit more interesting than the lawsuit in the second season. In addition, I did not find the story around Lee and Claire very interesting. The acting is again of a very high standard. Olivia Colman once again steals every scene, but David Tennant was stronger for me this time as well. Newcomers Charlotte Rampling, Eve Myles and James D'Arcy are doing fine. The same goes for Marianne Jean-Baptiste, who almost plays a kind of villain.

Wondering what the next season will be about.
