I had different expectations for this. At first I thought this would be a less serious series than Breaking Bad, which episodically followed the pranks of clown Saul Goodman. However, the reviews in the Dutch newspapers regarding the last released season (namely season five) seem to be unanimously acclaimed, stating that it is even better than Breaking Bad. That made me curious about this series, although I expected that the first seasons would still be quite boring, a slow build-up in which the persistence that lasts well into the following seasons would only start to reap the benefits.
Finally saw this first season this week and undoubtedly there is a grain of truth in it, that it will only get better, but I already find this season quite intriguing. A lot of rascals from Saul indeed, but I admire the creativity of it. Different from Walter White, but just as thoughtful and sometimes unexpected in his own way. And Saul also seems to have deeper layers in this series, which are definitely worth checking out. We also get to see Mike and the way in which his character is developed contains moments , in particular the outpouring about his son that can be classified as the best television moments in my opinion. Very well acted too.
Finally, it may be mentioned that there are sometimes very inventive shots. It is not of the level of the better feature films, but it does make it visually one of the better series. Very much looking forward to the next seasons. 3.5*.

This review actually covers the entire series. The series is built around Saul.
Actually, I find the whole development of Mike, Gus and the Cartel (Don Eladio, Gus, the Salamancas) much more interesting. I am now rewatching the first 4 seasons before starting season 5. This is because you always miss things.
Really enjoying how this develops and eventually culminates in Breaking Bad. Chuck, Kim, that's all nice, but I should have left it out. Just stuffing. So I think BCS is just as good as BB except for the filling. The development from Jimmy to Saul and Gene is also interesting in itself but takes up way too much space because of all those dead-end sidetracks of Chuck, Kim etc. And should therefore be much more limited. But then get 6 seasons full...
