The Rotters' Club plot

Trotter, Harding, Anderton and Chase: that sounds like a law firm, according to the cynical English teacher. But in reality, it is about four young friends at a school in Birmingham in the unreal landscape of the 1970s. Sean Harding's anarchic sense of humor makes him a legendary figure, both among his fellow students and at the neighboring girls' school. Doug Anderton gradually emerges as the political heir to his father, a prominent trade unionist. Philip Chase suffers from his parents' marriage in danger and from the breakup of his progressive pop group. And for a budding novelist Benjamin Trotter, life will never make sense until he has captured the attention of the beautiful Cicely.
