Scream writer and producer Kevin Williamson believes the franchise can continue for the foreseeable future.
The 2022 reboot/sequel of Scream was a commercial and critical success.
On a budget of $24 million, Scream earned $140 million at the worldwide box office, a healthy return for an R-rated 18+ film.
A major contributing factor to the success of the latest movie in the Scream franchise has been attributed to the young cast who breathed new life, or death, into Woodsboro.
Franchise favourites Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette all featured, but the plot centered around a new batch of teens, led by Melissa Barrera's character.
A sequel has already concluded filming in New York and will be released in March of 2023, and it seems like there are plans for more.
"Now . I’ve been proven wrong repeatedly. Since this last one was such a pleasure… I also think one of the wonderful things about Scream is that there’s a different killer in every film, " Williamson, who wrote the original Scream, told Collider.
"There’s , they don’t go away. And Ghostface changes with every movie, so we have an opportunity to change the motive, change the story, and we can always twist and turn it since it was always meant to be a game-changer."
Barrera Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Courtney Cox will all reprise their roles from the previous movie for the untitled Scream sequel, but one major name who won't be appearing is franchise hero Campbell, who dropped out of the project due to an insufficient salary offer from the producers.
Hayden Panettiere will reprise her role as Kirby from Scream 4.
