Below are some of the rumoured names in the frame to star in the upcoming Harry Potter television series.

Based on the novel series by J.K. Rowling, Warner Bros. has produced The Philosopher's Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, The Prisoner of Azkaban, The Goblet of Fire, The Order of the Phoenix, The Half Blood Price, The Deathly Hallows Part I and The Deathly Hallows Part II.

The franchise has continued with the Fantastic Beasts movies, though they are nowhere near as critically or commercially successful.

The new television series will feature on HBO, but who will replace the likes of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint?

Who will play Harry Potter?

According to The Scotsman, the favourite to land the lead role of Harry Potter is Toby Woolf.

He may be young, but Woolf does have experience, having featured in starred in projects like Danny Boyle's Pistol television series and the movie Rare Beasts.

Who will play Hermoine Granger?

Bronte Carmichael is allegedly the favourite to play Hermione Grainger.

She has major experience, having starred in Christopher Robin, Darkest Hour and Game of Thrones.

Who will play Ron Weasley?

Joshua Pickering is in the frame to play Ron Weasley.

He is best known for his role as John Darling in Peter Pan and Wendy.

Who will play Professor Albus Dumbledore?

The Harry Potter film series was noted for its almost entirely British cast, but one American actor could be involved in the series, playing Albus Dumbledore.

He is best known for his role as Jonathan Rollins in L.A. Law between 1987 and 1994, though he has starred in major movie productions like Deep Impact, Rules of Engagement and Just Cause, also.

Who will play Professor Minerva McGonagall?

In what would be the most high-profile coup for the production, Helen Mirren is reportedly in talks to replace Maggie Smith as Professor McGonagall. An Oscar winner, Dame Helen needs no introduction.

Is Daniel Radcliffe in the Harry Potter reboot?

As he is the main representative of the franchise, even more so than J.K Rowling, Radcliffe has been asked if he will be involved in the TV series in any capacity, like a cameo.

But, that won't be happening.

"My understanding is that they're trying to very much start fresh and I'm sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere," he told ComicBook.com.

"So, I'm definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I'm very excited to have that torch passed. But I don't think it needs me to physically pass it."
