Gwyneth Paltrow believes the superhero era of cinema now focuses on quantity over quality.

Pepper Potts may not be one of the main characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but she has been there from the very beginning alongside Robert Downey Jr. and Iron Man.

According to Downey Jr., he begged Paltrow to take the role of Pepper, who would eventually become Tony Stark's wife.

The actress eventually accepted the part, but as the MCU expanded, she lost interest.

Paltrow has now retired from her role, just at a time when the term 'superhero fatigue' has been coined due to the sheer amount of comic book movies and television shows that have been thrust upon us over the last decade or so.

“You want the best chance to have a strong ROI. People put a lot of money into these things and they want them to be profitable," she said while on Hot Ones with Sean Evans.

“But if I look at the industry as a whole, this big push into superhero movies … you can only make so many good ones that feel truly original, and yet they’re still always trying to reach as many people as possible, which sometimes hinders quality or specificity or real point of view.”

Paltrow hasn't seen most MCU films

Paltrow admitted in a previous interview that she didn't keep up with the plethora of releases in the MCU.

“They said it’ (Iron Man) is going to feel like doing an indie film. We’re gonna have fun and you don’t have to be in too much of the action part anyway," she said at the Red Sea Film Festival.

"So I thought, Oh, okay. And we had such a good time. We improvised almost every scene of that movie. We would write it in the morning in Jon (Favreau's) trailer, and it was like doing an indie film. Then, the movie was such a huge hit that we didn’t make them like that anymore.

"To be honest, I stopped watching them at some point. I’ve never seen ‘Endgame.’ I’ve never seen any of these. I can’t keep track. I probably should at some point.”
