One of the most highly-anticipated movies of 2024 is the third Deadpool
The official title hasn't been confirmed yet, but rumours suggest it may be called 'Deadpool vs. Wolverine.'
In 2022, Ryan Reynolds confirmed that a third Deadpool movie would go into production, with Hugh Jackman making a triumphant return as Wolverine despite the character's death in Logan.
It is the first Deadpool movie to take place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it may be the kick up the backside that the MCU requires as it is going through a bit of a critical lull after poor receptions to the likes of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, The Marvels, Secret Invasion and Thor: Love and Thunder.
Matthew Vaughn, who directed X-Men: First Class, has apparently heard great things about Deadpool 3 and reckons it could "save" the MCU.
“The few snippets that I know about ‘Deadpool vs. Wolverine’ — or ‘Wolverine vs. Deadpool,’ I’m sure that argument between Ryan and Hugh is happening as we speak — are unbelievable,” Vaughn said on BroBible’s Post Credit podcast.
“That’s going to be the jolt…the Marvel universe is about to have a jolt of them and it’s going to bring that body back to life…I think Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are about to save the whole Marvel Universe.”
Vaughn is currently promoting his new spy caper, Argylle.
Vaughn getting tired of superhero movies
Vaughn is no stranger to the superhero genre, having previously helmed X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass.
But, even he believes the world needs a break from superhero movies, and he came to this conclusion after being "freaked out" at the box office failure of The Flash over the summer.
“I think there’s been so many bad superhero movies as well that it’s like when the Western got, you make so many you get bored of the genre, not because the genre is bad, but because the films are bad," the director told ScreenRant.
“I genuinely don’t know what’s happening with the superhero in the sense that, I do think, maybe we all need a little bit of time off from it. Maybe someone will make something so great that we will get excited again and remind everybody that just having identical ways of making superheroes… Superhero films are films.
“It’s a film that has superheroes in it. I think what happened was that they became superheroes, and the film part wasn’t that important.”
