The Last Son plot
"A prophecy written in blood."
The Sierra Nevada in the late nineteenth century. Isaac Lemay is a homicidal criminal haunted by a prophecy. To prevent his own murder, he is forced to kill his offspring. He currently has his son Cal in his sights. With bounty hunters and the Sheriff Solomon on his tail, a brutal cat-and-mouse game unfolds.

A modern western - with pretentious chapter titles.
Still, I'm not disappointed, because even though the story is somewhat unconventional for a western, it does come out, even though it may not be the most compelling narrative ever - and I also miss the razor-sharp contrast between good and evil, which is one of the characteristic features of a western for me. In fact, almost obligatory.
Visually it's all fine in any case, and the casting is solid - including a supporting role for Heather Graham who, as is often the case, ahem how do I put this nicely, plays the whore - whether she seeks out those roles herself or is typecast for them, I won't say anything more. And oh yeah, Colson Baker gets to play with a Gatling gun, although what strikes me most is that he doesn't actually hit anything at the moment supreme. That's a bit disappointing considering his nickname.
Other than that I couldn't really find anything special.

Reasonable western. The story is quite nice and original, although as a viewer you expect a surprise somewhere, which unfortunately does not happen. The film is quite dark and that atmosphere is well created with heavy music. a somewhat gray image and hard violent scenes. The film is sometimes a bit slow but that is not disturbing because usually there is some action and tension soon after. The acting is very good. Visually as indicated nice and dark. 3.0/3/5
