Shoot the Sun Down plot

The year is 1836. North of Texas and about three days' drive from Santa Fé, four people are traveling through the desert. They are a scalper hunter, who says he trades in buffalo hides but is in reality looking for gold, a middle-aged former ship captain who is also looking for gold, a former chambermaid from England who in exchange to sail to America agreed in writing with the captain to serve him for five years, and Mr. Rainbow, a former soldier who killed Native Americans.
