Disabled rancher 'Bull' Herrick wants to get his 6,000 head of cattle to market. He hires two gang leaders who hate each other: Hank Hayes and Heesman. Bull expects that none of the gang members will allow the other to steal the cattle. Helen Herrick, Bull's sister finds her brother playing with fire by hiring Hayes and Heesman. Former outlaw Jim 'Tex' Wall, who is looking for his wife's killer, is approached by Hayes to guide the transport of the cattle. Along the way, Tex seems unable to prevent Hayes and Heesman from getting into each other's hair and cheating each other.
