Horsemen of the Sierras plot
"STARRETT and SMILEY smash a deadly western feud!"
Searching for the killer of a government surveyor, US Marshal Steve Saunders disrupts a gunfight between the warring Grant and Webster families. This feud between the two families started when Chris Grant was killed and the Grants blamed the Websters. Ellory Webster, who is accused of murdering Chris, is believed to have died while locked in a barn that was set on fire by the Grants. Phineas Grant suspects that Ellory is still alive and hiding at the Rocking Moon Ranch.
