Pat Garrett arrives in Abilene, where he arrests five members of Butch Cassidy's outlaw gang. Pat then enlists Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson for assistance. The trio learns that a half-million dollar cash shipment is on its way to Abilene by train, and they realize Butch Cassidy has enough men left to commit train robberies. They also know that Cassidy is tapping the telegraph lines and they are having a fake message sent. The message says the money is already in Abilene's bank. But the residents of Abilene aren't happy with the way things are going and don't want to help Pat, Wyatt and Bat; rather, they free Cassidy's five gang members to avoid a big and bloody shooting in their town.
