Watched this on the BBC a while back around Christmas.

Was a very long time since I'd seen this one, must have been sometime in the early 80's, with my dad, who'd included it because of Loren's presence, but of course I wanted to see it for Peppard, who I'd just discovered through his then recent starring role in "The A-Team".

Loosely based on facts and events and built around a spy story.

Difficult to judge this film: for an amusing war adventure film, it is all just too serious and not entertaining enough, but for a serious war film it is too much on "Tintin level".

Sophia's role is extremely small, she only appears in one segment, lasts no more than 10 minutes and is therefore facing a scam by giving her first billing (the fact that her husband was the producer of the film has nothing to do with that, of course). making, are you crazy!?).

Also nice to see Jeremy Kemp as a good guy with Peppard and film has its moments, but is not really a classic like "The Guns of Navaronne" or "Where eagles dare".

A six, or three stars.

WWII thriller revolves around a race against time to prevent the Germans from winning the war with their flying bombs. Bombing the launch site does not guarantee success, so the Allied command decides to use infiltrators to blow it up. Starts impressively with a reconstruction of the life-threatening tests of the V-bomb and ends with a series of the most impressive explosions ever captured on film. The middle section consists of frequent consultations between military leaders and sluggish dramatic scenes, occasionally interspersed with heroic acts of self-sacrifice.

Changeable war film. Within the context of WWII stories, the invention of the V1/2 rockets is quite an original subject and those developments are initially shown excitingly with German-speaking Germans.

Loren certainly doesn't have a leading role, but her scenes are still very nice, she has enough presence for that. Peppard plays the American toffee as a contrast to the stiff British; I don't think his role is that special. He and her companions have to adopt Dutch identities with coal names (Van Ostamgen? Bijus?) - they could have put a little more research into that…

The last part is quite similar to the Bond films from that time, but does not reach that level.

Yet the positive predominates.
