Pussy with teasing and that for a lot of money. It's really sad what came out of the budget here. Just take the music. It reminds me of an adventure movie. A beautiful location, this marshland, but hardly anything is done with it. Yes, a red river, but brooding, menacing or whatever? Forget it.

There's something about maggots, but that scene is cut so quickly that it has no effect at all. There are more such attempts at scares that do not happen. Messy direction that gives the impression that someone has been raging with an ax on the cutting table. There is still something of horror to be seen through the girl.

But above all, it is a dull story about Swank in jerking and jerking, while every now and then some biblical violence is used. That is still possible, but then the priest suddenly comes to explain everything. With flashbacks, because imagine that someone doesn't get it. And that three times. Can't be hardened, this piece of shit.

Not wrong.

Watched because of the cast. Swank is usually fine in her roles but Robb also had an interesting role here. Although each role is somewhat poorly developed and often somewhat standard written, they are really neatly performed.

I like the idea of Biblical plagues. The events such as the crickets or lice are really interesting to follow, although the film itself is nowhere very exciting. It also fails a bit with that, but the interesting concept keeps the film going.

Cast does a good job, but no threat at all and towards the end with the fireballs the effects were even mediocre. For the rest, this film is best to watch, with more tension this would undoubtedly have been successful.

Film doesn't rely on suspense, but it does contain some interesting fantasy things. Concept holds up the film, the rest is nothing special.

2.5*
