Another ok NL.

Never really seen anything with Maassen in the lead role. I always thought of him as a bit of the prankster who pops in every now and then, but apparently he does more serious roles as well. And he actually does that well, his voice is a bit too soft to play a hard one, but otherwise performs well.

Story is fine, and doesn't take too long which is well chosen. It is all amusingly presented, although I think the true story surrounding it is a bit exaggerated. Sometimes Maassen comes off very easily, so you can clearly see that a lot of fiction has been put into it.

Smit also plays along well for her fairly young age, the tensions and chemistry between her and Maassen can sometimes be felt, but she seems to show little emotion. That's not always the case on the screen.

Visually, it's all a bit fuzzy and ugly. This seemed to be from the 90s, while the year is 2008. It may always look sad, but I don't think this was to convey that atmosphere. Those ugly jump cuts weren't necessary at all. I even thought my TV was broken.

But in the final phase, the film still just goes over the edge. Maassen is quite absorbed in his role and thanks to the uneasy tensions that have been done well, this film can still be called a bit successful in the end. Not very exciting, but quite entertaining. Fortunately, it doesn't take too long either.

Theo Maassen is primarily known for his jokes and pranks, but here he plays such a strong role as an escaped TBS'er who doesn't have much good stuff to say that you immediately forget that. The constant doubt 'Is he innocent or not?' (The first time I saw the film I was much stronger than that) makes him an even more interesting figure.

As in Van God Los, but not so often, a statue of Mary occasionally appears; the purity contrasts nicely with the excessive violence. But in Van God Los I think it works just that little bit better, Kuypers is a bit repetitive. He should actually come and film in Tilburg one day, it is full of Mary statues here.

The film has a few hard moments and looks particularly gloomy, because of the gray colors and desolate decors: a Tbs clinic, an almost deserted campsite, a bus shelter so tatty that you wonder whether a bus actually stops there?

The semi-happy song during the credits put a damper on the heavy ending, so just put on some slightly ominous music or something.

Reasonable film whose ending is in fact already indicated by the title. Theo and Lisa played great roles and there was even some tension now and then. The scene in the tunnel was a bit 'over the top' but otherwise it was portrayed quite realistically. I had never seen this one before, but it won't be a second time.
