Ober plot
Edgar works as a waiter in Het Westen, a mediocre restaurant with a large aquarium. His wife is chronically ill, he is very bothered by his neighbors, his girlfriend is often quite difficult and at work he is treated like dirt by his customers. At one point Edgar is fed up with his life and decides to take measures. He goes to get a story from Herman, the screenwriter of his life.

Nice and yet also a fairly original idea, clichés are nicely avoided and Edgar is not given much credit. 
Nice change from the exhausted popular films. The last 20 minutes do start to drag a bit because in principle we stay in the same tune, but I had a good time with this. By the way, Van Warmerdam has also managed to get nice actresses!

Again a special one from Warmerdam with an excellent approach where we meet the fictional character Edgar who is sent by screenwriter Herman. Herman, an amateur writer, who is not overflowing with literary qualities, divides and rules in his screenplay and Edgar is the biggest victim of this, because Edgar's life is not in the least rosy. In addition, Herman has to see that he does not let himself be eaten by his overzealous, meddlesome, but also not very talented girlfriend.
In terms of content, the film is just a potpourri and there is little coherence, but that is of course exactly the point. The plot is directly proportional to Herman's paper bumbling. It makes no sense, but it is interesting to watch the film that way. There will no doubt be better examples in the movie world, but this constructed life reminded me of The Truman show.
Always nice to see Belgian actors. So here's Stefaan Degand in a small supporting role. A fairly well-known figure with us, a remarkable man who, with his unusual oeuvre and bizarre humor, can seamlessly connect with Van Warmerdam.
