Liam Neeson follows in the footsteps of Humphrey Bogart, Elliott Gould and Robert Mitchum, among others, as Philip Marlowe, the ultimate Film Noir detective, and has two excellent potential femme fatales in Diane Kruger and two-time Oscar winner Jessica Lange. Xavi Giménez (The Machinist, Marrowbone) exemplifies the traditional visual style that is so typical of the genre. Unfortunately, Marlowe's search for Nico Peterson [François Arnaud] arouses little interest due to Jordan's slow direction and the fact that he seems more concerned with honoring actors and filmmakers than creating suspense or suspense. Looks nice, but there is not much to do.

What a low rating. Okay, granted. It's not a masterpiece. For that, the film also lacks a decent tension arc. But this film noir detective role by Leeson suits him like a glove and the 1930s LA setting always works well for me. So very entertaining. The mystery itself is not very exciting, but due to the fast pace (Neeson ends up in many situations, never a doll moment) I managed to sit through this with ease.

Not quite successful. The scenes do not always follow each other logically. Some shots in succession are strangely edited (this has also been referred to above), but also content-wise, sometimes too many coincidences or scripted ways to advance a plot. The whole plot didn't really interest me. The acting is reasonable, although all characters really remain as flat as cardboard. There really could have been more to it, although the actors do their best so that the characters still come to life. In any case, the film is not really boring (at times it wants to drag on for a while, but never for long). Enough happens and the decoration is nice in a yellow-drenched LA with nice jazzy music and I really felt like I was in the 1930s for just under two hours. And sometimes that's exactly what a movie should do. 3.0*.
