Police inspector Franz Bulon suspects his beautiful and much younger wife Lisa of cheating on him with another man. To revenge himself, he devises a plan to have her killed. He blackmails hit man Max Lindt for this, but when Lindt and Lisa fall for each other, things take a completely different turn...

A giallo that doesn't necessarily feel Italian, as already indicated here. It is all filmed quite economically, and the soundtrack is also on the modest side. It does have a distinct connection to film noir. Intrigues, protagonist John Mills grappling with the line between good and evil, and with Luciana Paluzzi we see a true femme fatale at work. And the trench coats. Good acting performances and a script revolving around obsession, possessiveness, greed, and sexual attraction. Life as it is, basically. It never gets truly suspenseful, but it is certainly entertaining.

A Black Veil for Lisa is a decent thriller that is more of a crime story and actually has little to do with horror other than a few murders. The story is interesting to follow and is enhanced by the three main characters, namely police inspector John Mills, hitman Robert Hoffmann and femme fatale Luciana Paluzzi. The film tends towards a film noir with a lot of intrigue that includes obsession, trust and manipulation. 6/10
