Very confusing this movie. Not the story or the movie itself, but more the fact that this is one of Umberto Lenzi's two Paranoias. Even on MM it was wrong. This title was not yet on it, but the poster of this was with the other Paranoia, which was already on the site. Just looked around and that has now been corrected.

The movie itself is pretty good. A psychological thriller in which two young people and a woman are driven insane. They do this through alcohol and LSD, so the film contains a huge amount of psychedelic images and dream images.

Carroll Baker is very good as a tormented woman and Lou Castel is also strong. The direction is typically Italian, comparable to the many pop-art films of the same time. Piero Umiliani's music can even be called genius.

Let's just hope that a label like Blue Underground, or even Shameless, will release this movie on DVD or Blu-Ray!

4*

Psychological giallo with all the thrills of the free-spirited 60s in the mix. Drugs, threesome sex, lesbian sex, ... it must have all been shocking before then. A lot of t&a from the female leads anyway, but also good acting performances for what the script has to offer. Caroll Baker shines as a mundane jet-setter in decline ... Lou Castel and Colette Descombes, on the other hand, represent a certain side of hippie morality with mainly transgressive behaviour. With this, Umberto Lenzi places the counterculture of that time in a less positive light. Certainly functional for the drive of the story. Beautifully shot by Lenzi with many close-ups as his trademark. Supported by a fine score of which one song is functional within the script. All in all a very dark cynical film. That ending. Intriguing work.
