A bit of a typical thriller indeed that feels very 90s. I always like that and then there are also great actors in it. I immediately associate Michael Douglas with a good film, Famke Janssen has a somewhat thankless role here that she still tries to do something with and Sean Bean remains a great villain.

Visually not very high quality and the script contains a number of holes, yet the film manages to remain quite exciting and looks good.

Great thriller that starts as an action movie and where we can immediately know that Sean Bean can play a villainous role.

Michael Douglas plays a sympathetic role as family man/psychologist Conrad, who leads a fine life with his eight-year-old daughter and wife (Famke Janssen). However, his wife has had a skiing accident and is in a cast in rehab. His daughter still likes to play hide-and-seek, but one day the hide-and-seek turns out to be serious and she doesn't show up anymore when Conrad calls her. And then the chain of the front door appears to have been cut open.

And it turns out that he and his wife have to deal with Sean Bean who tells them over the phone that they have kidnapped their daughter and that they only want a six-digit code. If they don't get it on time... you know by now. Also, the apartment seems to be full of cameras and Conrad's wife with her leg seems to be an easy bet for these villains. There is someone who knows this code, a badly damaged girl in one of the institutions. A superlative role by Brittany Murphy.

And so a hostage thriller takes on a different, if not psychological, twist. It seems hopeless to extract any information from this Elisabeth. She will never tell... However, Conrad knows how to stimulate and the tragic history that is connected comes up. That (flashback) scene at the metro station was intense!

The climax was very typical, but I managed to get by just fine with this film; partly due to the excellent acting and psychological considerations. Michael Douglas is always good imo.

Intriguing.

Thrillers from the 90's are the best in this genre in my opinion.
Especially when you know that the possibilities, way of filming, course and structure of the film and the acting performances are completely different compared to now.

These films, averaging 25 years old, still hold their own with ease and are often so much better by comparison than what is being made now.

Even if Michael Douglas has the lead role, you just know that the film is worth watching, so is this one.

Great thriller, a little less to the psychological side and a little more action, in which Sean Bean always plays well and believably and is the perfect choice for the "villain". Famke Janssen unfortunately has a slightly (too) small role, but the very well acting Brittany Murphy makes up for that!

Most of the film gives enough tension, it's a shame there was a fairly standard and simple ending: good guy against bad guy, all's well that ends well, without little plot twist , this costs me a lot *, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's just a very good movie!
