I Give It a Year plot
Since they first met at a party, work-successful Nat and novelist Josh have been deeply content with each other, despite their stark differences. Josh is a real thinker, Nat is a doer. But more importantly ... the spark still regularly flies with them. Their marriage is a dream come true, but family, friends and even the man who marries them are not convinced that their relationship will work. Josh's ex-girlfriend and a handsome American client of Nat's can sometimes throw a spanner in the works. Both don't want to give up before their first anniversary year, but will they make it?

The film starts a bit stiff and it is difficult to get into the film, but once you get up to speed, a nice, funny film with an original and romantic twist that you don't see often. The ending is quite genius and typifies the obvious British humor. From the part of "Will you divorce me?" until the double reunification at the station it is so incredibly strong.
It's a shame they didn't manage to introduce the characters in a decent way, so you end up looking at the credits with mixed feelings.

I Give It a Year
This has got to be the most predictable rom-com of all time. How it ends is even written in the title. The makers and the actors must have noticed that too, because it is no secret that Byrne and Spall do not fit together at all. And after Faris and Baker are introduced you know where it's going.
Not bad as long as there is chemistry between the actors and the humor works. The interplay between the four actors is reasonable, but the humor is sometimes painfully unfunny. Only Driver and Flemyng in supporting roles have some great moments. And the ending is well done. For the rest, I Give It a Year is a mediocre rom-com.
