Americaner Shadchen plot

Nat Silver has been engaged seven times already, but this eighth time he is actually going to get married—to Shirley. Then Shirley’s old boyfriend shows up with a gun. He threatens to commit suicide unless he can get Shirley back. Nat complicitly gives in. According to Nat’s mother, his uncle Shya was unlucky in love but found happiness as a matchmaker. According to her, Nat is just like Shya. Nat then tells his family that he is going to Italy, but goes to New York instead and establishes himself there as a matchmaker.
