"Television remake of the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic."

Two parallel romances take place on an island in the Pacific Ocean. Young Navy nurse Nellie Forbush falls for elder French plantation owner Emile de Becque, while young Marine Joseph Cable falls in love with the local Liat. However, the relations are torn apart by the Second World War.
