Good film in which a flower shop brightens up when an employee finds a special plant. A fresh and original film. However, because of the simple story, it sometimes collapses a bit. But the songs are almost all nice and the whole decoration is beautiful (especially the plant is very nicely made). The cast manages to deliver it with enough enthusiasm and the whole finale of the director's cut is a lot of fun.

A film adaptation of the musical Little Shop of Horrors, which in turn is inspired by Roger Corman's farcical horror film from 1960. The story is quite identical to Corman's film, with the big difference that this film is full of songs . And remarkably fun and catchy songs. The title song is an immediate introduction. Several more good songs follow, but the Oscar-nominated Mean Green Mother From Outer Space is a very nice one. This is mainly due to the fantastic voice of Levi Stubbs. With his voice and the puppetry of a lot of craftsmen who also worked on The Muppets, Audrey II really is the big star of the show.

Another star nomination for the show is Steve Martin as a wonderfully fat boy-cum-dentist. How he at one point flies into an alley with his motorcycle is hilarious. Because sure, Rick Moranis and Ellen Greene play great lead roles, but Martin draws the attention. It's especially nice to see how Bill Murray suddenly appears in the famous dentist scene - the scene in the original with Jack Nicholson. While struggling on a dental chair, the two comedians almost seem to be competing to see who can steal the show the most. Yet none of them can beat the man-eating plant with evil plans. Speaking of which; I advise everyone to watch the version with the original ending. The ending of the theatrical version - which had to be made because a test audience once again got too much say - is worthless.

3.5 stars.

mealy.

Film with a reasonable status, but with a low amount of actual voices. Perhaps not so strange, because Little Shop of Horrors follows a different path than you would think beforehand. Oz mixes musical with horror, fantasy and comedy. But most probably already know that.

Passion and talent are certainly there, but the large amount of silly jokes eventually get boring. The film must therefore mainly rely on the bizarre characters that walk around here, such as those of Martin and Moranis. Moranis can do this kind of roll with his eyes closed, but Martin actually fits in this movie so badly that it becomes fun again.

Plant also looks nice. It's not really brilliant, but it's all very practical and it does have a certain charm. In the meantime, perhaps a little bit outdated, but it is part of the times so you can't complain much about it. Still on the direction of Oz.

Because apart from the comedy and fun effects, it doesn't feel fresh or airy enough and the atmosphere doesn't always break through well. Several attempts are made, and some scenes are successful, but the small scale of the film is very noticeable and it just doesn't want to look away optimally.

Fortunately, it doesn't take long and a lot happens. I just didn't really like it seriously, but the charm sometimes jumps out of it. Nice to have seen, but unfortunately I didn't find it a high flyer. Highly recommended for those who like a childish and fairly unique horror film.
