Sam Ellis is a mechanic whose songs, written for his late mother, become an unexpected hit. He emerges as a famous folk singer in the 1970s. Unable to handle the fame, Sam retreats to a ranch in the desert, where an unexpected love affair forces him to confront his pain in order to move on.
